Pianist Athena Tsianos is a graduate of The Juilliard School, where she was a proud Kovner Fellow and Vergottis Scholarship Recipient for all years. Her instructors included Robert McDonald and Matti Raekallio. Prior to college, Athena was a long-term student of Bernadene Blaha and now continues under her tutelage at The Thornton School. Her competition prizes include first place in the Tureck International Bach Competition, along with the prize the Best Performance of a Contemporary Piece; first place in the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition; finalist in National YoungArts; and first places in MTAC and MTNA competitions. She has given solo recitals for the Chopin for AllSeries by the Chopin Foundation of the United States, and has partaken in the Tuesdays at 1series at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, the Sundays LiveSeries at The LA County Museum of Art, and Rosalyn Tureck's Centennial at Lincoln Center. As a concert soloist, Athena has appeared with the Bellflower Symphony Orchestra and the Young Musicians’ Foundation Debut Orchestra in Los Angeles. Moreover, an advocate of historical performance, Athena has studied period instruments with Dr. Axinn at The Juilliard School. She has also extensively studied with Miyoko Lotto, of the Manhattan School of Music and Gorodnitzki Foundation, and Conor Hanick. Athena is an alumna of The Music Academy of the West.
