Jeff began playing the clarinet at age 12 growing up in Southern California. His inspirations were from Michelle Zukovsky of the LA Philharmonic and Mitchell Lurie at USC. His private teachers were students of these great performers. He went to University of California at Davis and double majored in music ( focusing on theory, composition, conducting, and history) and biochemistry in preparation for veterinary school.
During his 9 years at Davis, Jeff was the principal clarinet for the UCD Symphony Orchestra, the Davis Comic Opera Company, and one of the founding members of the Amadeus Trio (2 clarinets and bassoon). During his 20 year career as a veterinarian, music performance had to take a hiatus. after retirement from private practice and a move to Maui, time allows for a renewal of his passion for playing.
He is principal clarinet of the Maui Pops Orchestra, plays chamber music whenever possible. For several years, Jeff has been accepted to the Baltimore Symphony Academy program where he plays side-by-side with members of the clarinet section in performances of major orchestral pieces. The program also includes chamber music workshops and performances.
He became President of the Board for the Maui Classical Music Festival during the 40th anniversary season.
Providing a venue for chamber music as well as participating in talented groups has been a lifelong dream.
