A Maui native, Chris was born and raised in Lahaina and began playing bassoon in the band at Lahainaluna High School, under the direction of Mr. Brian Kelly. While in high school Chris played in the Maui District Honor Band, the Hawaii Youth Symphony, and the former Maui Symphony. Chris was also a former Maui district selectee for the Sterling Scholar Awards competition in the area of music.
Chris attended the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia, and has been a bassoonist in the United States Army music program for 26 years. Among his many military awards are the Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal (8th Award), and the Airborne Parachutist Badge. He currently serves as Chief of Administration of the 111th Army Band in Pearl City, Hawaii.
Chris has performed for numerous locally produced Broadway shows and other ensembles including the San Antonio Municipal Band, Kamuela Philharmonic, Maui Pops Orchestra, Royal Hawaiian Band, and the Honolulu Symphony.
Chris studied bassoon with Marcia Schweitzer and Michael Sciarini. He is excited to have the opportunity to perform on Maui and thankful for the support of fellow musicians, friends, mentors, and his family.
